Utalii 5-year Strategic Plan Receives Stakeholders’ Nod

The shift towards sustainability in the next five years will focus on improving the quality of training, enhancing research and consultancy, and repositioning the college as a market leader.

Kenya Utalii College’s (KUC) 5-year Strategic Plan has received compliments and feedback in an event that was attended by tourism and hospitality industry stakeholders, representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and KUC senior staff members.

The shift towards sustainability in the next five years will focus on improving the quality of training, enhancing research and consultancy, and repositioning the college as a market leader. All these, including financial sustainability must be founded on the development of human capital and operational experience. “KUC’s training is very specialized and we are geared to continue setting standards for the industry. Competition is inevitable, but we have contributed hugely in shaping excellence as a regulator and trainer,” said Mr. Hashim Mohamed, Principal and CEO, Kenya Utalii College.

The institution whose mandate is providing and promoting continuous capacity building for tourism and hospitality made major strides in the implementation of the 2013 – 2018 Strategic Plan.

Mr. Mohamed highlighted some of the key achievements despite the tough economic and political environment.

“KUC was able to review the curriculum, enhance capacity of infrastructure for student services, upgraded the ERP and integrated it in the student management system and the library. Additionally, the college successfully drafted the organizational structure, human resource policy and career progression guidelines,” he said.

Despite the challenges in facilities and infrastructure, Mr. Mohamed affirmed the institution’s commitment to advancing research and collaborations to enhance skills development in the industry.

“There is an opportunity for all scholars to do research. For success, you have to collaborate with like minded institutions and individuals to emerge successful,” he said.

While listing some of the available opportunities such as lecturer and student exchange programmes, he called on scholars to change their perceptions and mindsets to continuously churn out new knowledge for the industry.
